The sun is out

The sun is out My cat is a little ball of static lately. It cant be too much fun to be a cat in the winter time. Today I wrested the last fateful drop out of my toothpaste and finally confronted the task of getting a new tube. Id been putting off this day for weeks. But it could be put off no longer. I dont think Ive ever quite emptied a tube of toothpaste to this extent before. Its not like La Verdes is far away, or toothpaste is very expensive, its just that time of the semester. Any MIT student will tell you, drop date is the most aptly placed date in the whole MIT calendar, the last couple of weeks before Thanksgiving really wears you out. Lobby 7 on Tuesday Night Yesterday I finished two 11-page essays for the same class. Rhetoric is not a HASS I recommend for the particularly faint of heart. There are much easier ways to fulfill requirements. Yesterday, I went to rehearsal for the final project in dance, played in a badminton game at 8, which officially put us into the playoffs (yeah!) [which, incidentally, lasted all of 1 whole day for us (no!)] went to cheerleading practice at 9, stayed after to tumble til about 11. Went to sleep about 6am. Dupont Gymnastics Room Today, I went to get a drop form signed and fell asleep on my advisors couch. For 2 hours. Coming back from his meeting, he discovered me with my drop form draped across my face mumbling something or other about how I wasnt even bored. We talked about what classes I was actually enrolled in, and to a pretty good degree of certainty we think weve figured it out. Then I biked what seemed to be forever across what I was sure was the frozen tundra of antarctica. I dont remember being so frightfully cold in a very long time. Winter blows in in a huge hurry around these parts. Anyways, the point was to visit the Writing Center, and get the final drafts of my essays looked at by the writing department staff before turning them in for good. If I dont sound terribly grateful to the Writing Center, my mistake. This is really a fantastic service, one of many things I did not discover until senior year. Appointments are made online, for one-hour one-on-one time slots, to brainstorm, to edit, to go over style issues whatever, however you want to use the resource, really, of having a PhD in english or writing at your disposal. The building 2 staircase always gives me vertigo Ive been sleeping on the floor the last couple of nights because Im right over the boiler room and its warmmmmm. :) Man, there are a lot of things to do here. But sometimes, we all need to simplify. Like, whats wrong with a quiet evening of just batting around a gum wrapper? J.P. Licks shows us how its done Oh no, I think weve been spotted! Better go! World War I Gained Its Label - 1377 Words

World War I was, simply put, a war like no other. It was the first total war the world had experienced and it revolutionized our idea of war and what it entailed. World War I eventually coined the nickname â€Å"the war to end all wars†; which we now find to be ironic because there have been plenty of wars since. At the time, however, it was believed that society would be rebirthed by the war and it would be changed to a more perfect form. There would be no sense in war anymore because humanity would finally be ideal. Yet when we examine the casualties and destruction post-war, they add up to a horrific amount. During this era, it seemed nearly impossible for war to continue, in consideration to the welfare of humanity. Still though, it only†¦show more content†¦Sometimes, terrible things have to happen so necessary changes can take place. In contrast to President Wilson’s more rational ideals, Winston Churchill, an allied leader, argued this. He claimed that, â€Å"We are not meant to find peace in this world,† and that war often brought progress and necessary revolutions for the betterment of society. Some believed it would erase the class systems and return the mannerly values of society. Others believed it would overthrow the oppressing sense of dictatorship and democracy would prevail. Colonials believed that maybe the Europeans would finally grant them independence. Although war brings death and destruction, the world could be worse without it. Sometimes there’s a lot to lose but even more to gain. Even Emile Zola, a person notorious for being a leftist, found that, â€Å"it is only the warlike nations that have prospered. A nation dies as soon as it disarms. War is the school of discipline, sacrifice, and courage.† The Great War could not be â€Å"the war to end all wars† because history repeats itself. Just as World War I was seemingly bound to happen, so is every other war. An event leads to another event, which will eventually lead to war. Life seems to be a never ending cycle of major historical events and their repercussions. Nothing would ever end war because the world doesn’t know how to function without it. World War I presented a war that was more industrial than those that had preceded it. It

Churner (2014) writes an interesting article portraying Apple’s return to the bond market in 2014. In April 2014 Apple completed its second blockbuster bond sale in a year. Apple sold $ban of debt of varying maturities at interest rates that were mostly less than a percentage point above comparable U. We will write a custom essay sample on Apple essay or any similar topic only for you Order Now S. Treasury debt (Churner, 2014). This sale goes a long way in highlighting the faith in the prospects of Apple. The offering was extremely tempting for investors whom flocked to place more than $ban in orders (Churner, 2014). The bonds sold Tuesday offered interest rates relative to Treasures that were similar to last year’s sale. For example, a 10-year bond from Apple on Tuesday was priced to yield 0. 77 percentage point more than comparable Treasures. Last year, Apple priced 10-year bonds to yield 0. 75 percentage point more (Churner, 2014). In all, Apple sold fixed-rate bonds maturing in three, five, seven, 10 and 30 years, and were priced to yield 1. 068%, 2. 108%, 2. 889%, 3. 460% and 4. 483%, respectively (Churner, 2014). Deutsche Bank GAG and Goldman Sacks Group Inc. Deed the sale. The head of ‘investment grade credit at Invoices, Chuck Burger describes how â€Å"Apple’s bonds are an attractive alternative to Treasury bonds. † He goes on to suggest that the reason they are so popular is due to their past strong performance, and the fact that everyone knows of Apple and has become very trustworthy of the brand name. Invoices spent $million on the new Apple bonds. The value of Apple’s bonds is determined through their supply and demand like any other economic good or service. Demand for Apple’s bonds has been high for a few seasons, and therefore the value of the bonds is also high. They are highly sought after because they are rated as AAA+, the second highest rating (Churner, 2014)- this is turn reflects a corporate-debt market that is putting in a strong performance this year. Bond prices are often inversely correlated to expectations about the future economy, and thus the stock market. In 2013 bond investments (demand) declined amid investor expectations that the U. S. Economy would pick up steam. However, this has turned around in 2014 as expectations have deteriorated. Apple does have a lathe cash pile ($1 ban) but there are a range of investors that fear selling bonds to reward shareholders can ding the value of a company’s outstanding debt. In order for the value of Apple’s bonds to remain strong it must ensure that it keeps its products as industry leaders; as soon as this is not the case the demand to invest in Apple bonds will shrink and the price will fall. Worktables (2013) attempts to explain why a company like Apple with such high cash levels would want to issue bonds; fundamentally issued by companies to raise cash. This essentially comes down to a irk in the tax regime: â€Å"According to analyst estimates, Apple has $Bonn of cash- but only $ban on hand in the U. S. , and thus not enough to fully fund the share buy- back program† (Worktables, 2013). Therefore although Apple has a vast amount of cash, it needs the ability to access more in order to make up for the less accessible cash they have stored abroad. References Churner, M. , (2014). Was it a federal question case or a diversity of citizenship case? Why? Answers: 1. In this paper, we shall discuss about the Wal- Mart v. Dukes case wherein about 1.6 million female employees brought a class action against the giant supermarket chain, Wal-Mart. The Supreme Court decided in favor of Wal-Mart on the ground that the plaintiffs have failed to establish that the company has policies, which discriminates against women with respect to promotions and equal pay (Zimmer, 2011). In 2000, the issue of sex discrimination against Wal-mart was taken up by Betty Dukes; In 2001, a case was instituted in the U.S District Court on behalf of 1.6million women against Wal-mart In 2004, the decision of the Federal District Judge was appealed by Wal-mart. Wal-mart also lost before the Court of Appeals. Finally, Wal-marts appeal was heard by the Supreme Court. 2. Majority opinion means that more than half of the court has agreed upon a particular decision. On the other hand, concurring opinion means the decision is the same but the reasons vary. Dissenting opinion signifies the opinion of the panel, which is against majority decision. The majority decision is binding on the lower courts in the United States of America. 3. In this case, the Federal Court was acting under the diversity of citizenship jurisdiction. This is because there is complete diversity between the parties. It was finally decided that henceforth when women want to bring such action they shall have to do so individually and no class action would be permissible. In conclusion it can be stated that this case is a major win for Wal-mart and for that matter large companies from being subjected to class litigations relating to discrimination (Selmi, 2011).
